Early voting this Saturday begins for November 16 election
Lafourche Parish voters will face a couple of renewal and rededication of taxes during the Nov. 16 election.
Early voting opens Saturday and continues next week from Monday through Saturday. The polls will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at one of two locations. In Thibodaux, early voters can go to the Thibodaux Registrar of Voters Office, 307 W. Fourth St. or the Registrar of Voters Office in the South Lafourche Library at 16241 E. Main St., Galliano.
Voters in Lafourche will decide whether to partially rededicate and extend a 3.8-mill library property tax that now goes to library construction, maintenance and operations. One mill would be rededicated for construction and operation of a new jail to replace the current one.
Voters in central Lafourche, namely Raceland and Lockport, will also vote on whether to renew a 9-mill property tax that pays for ambulance services. The tax renewal would generate around $1.1 million annually through 2023.
Election Day polls will be open in regular polling locations from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Election information and polling locations can be found on the Louisiana Secretary of State website at www.geauxvote.com.
