Early voting continues through Saturday for tax measures
Early voting for the May 2 ballot started Saturday, April 18 and will continue through Saturday, April 25 at Lafourche Parish Registrar of Voters' offices.
Voters can decide whether to approve a quarter-cent sales tax increase for levee and drainage improvements in central and north Lafourche.
The tax is expected to raise about $2.2 million a year for the North Lafourche Levee District, which works to improve drainage and enhance flood protection for parish residents north of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
Money from the tax will be used strictly for projects, such as improvements to pump stations, levees and drainage canals, officials said.
The district includes more than 250 miles of levees and drainage canals and 40 pump stations. Only voters within the district will cast ballots on the tax proposal.
The ballot also includes a Lafourche School Board plan to redirect money left from the sale of construction bonds to campus safety enhancements. Voters parishwide will cast ballots on that measure.
Registrar's offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are located at 307 W. 4th St. in Thibodaux and 16241 E. Main Street, Suite B-23 in Cut Off.
