Driver dies after submerging his vehicle in Bayou Lafourche
Shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a fatality crash on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish where a driver later died at the hospital after submerging his vehicle in Bayou Lafourche.
A 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Isaias Torres, age 43, of Lockport, was traveling south on LA 1 in Larose when it traveled off the left side of the highway and flipped upside down in the bayou.
The Cavalier became submerged in Bayou Lafourche and trapped Torres until he could be extracted from the vehicle. Torres, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to St. Anne Hospital where he was treated and then flown to University Hospital in New Orleans.
He later died at University Hospital due to his injuries.
Blood was drawn from Torres with test results pending at the State Police Crime Lab. The crash is still under investigation.
