DOTD to extend LA 1 Cash Lane in Leeville
LEEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will soon start a project to widen and lengthen the La. 1 cash lane at the Leeville Bridge in Lafourche Parish.
Construction will begin in the next two weeks and be completed in time for Memorial Day weekend in May.
The project will involve the widening of the existing roadway by two and a half feet on each side to lengthen the turn lane by approximately 1500 feet, to the vicinity of Bobby Lynn’s Marina, located not far from the toll entrance.
The work will be performed by Barriere Construction and cost approximately $300,000.
“As we have stated on numerous occasions, we continuously monitor the La. 1 toll area and will make adjustments to help improve motorists’ travel experience,” said Rhett Desselle, assistant secretary for operations. “This project will improve capacity and operator efficiency.”
In March, in an effort to expedite driver travel times through the toll lane, DOTD announced its GeauxPass toll tag giveaway. To date, DOTD has either given away or sold – to motorists who did not qualify for the promotion – nearly 700 of the 1,000 tags sponsored by the LA1 Coalition.
It expects to be out of the free tags by mid-May.
“We are both excited and pleased that frequent travelers of La. 1 have taken advantage of the free toll tag promotion,” said Henri Boulet, executive director of the LA1 Coalition. “The free toll tag, coupled with the upcoming extension of the cash lane, should tremendously improve drive times for motorists crossing the Leeville Bridge.”
As a reminder, opening a GeauxPass Toll Tag account is still the most efficient way to expedite the toll process for motorists at La.1, especially regular commuters. The advantages of using GeauxPass are no lines at the toll gantry; no scrambling for loose change or dollar bills; no need to open car windows in bad weather; access to non-stop, open toll lane on La. 1; GeauxPass is a snap to install – no tools necessary.
