Council action taken at Tues., Nov. 28 public meeting


In other Parish Council action from November 28, public meeting (vote was 9-0 in favor except where noted):

-- Heard proclamations honoring Ms. Marguerite Knight-Erwin and Mr. John DeSantis for “outstanding service to the community”;

-- Considered 66 amendments to the 2018 Proposed Operating, Maintenance and Capital Budgets (another 120 amendments were considered on Monday November 27);

-- Went into Executive Session to consider Choctaw Levee lawsuit;

-- Voted against an ordinance requesting Traffic Calming Devices on West 202nd Street in Galliano (vote was 2-7 with Lorraine and Bourgeois in favor);

-- Voted against modifying Ordinance 5977 as it pertains to animals, number of fishing lines per person and throwing of cast nets on the Leeville Fishing Pier and signage (vote was 4-5 with Lorraine, Gros, Bourgeois, and Autin in favor);

-- Passed an ordinance establishing “No Parking” on both sides of West 212th Street in Galliano and signage;

-- Passed an ordinance de-obligating and reducing various CDBG projects and reclassifying $5,118,501.37 to the construction of the Lockport Community Center;

-- Passed an ordinance approving COLA salary increases for Head Start employees;

-- Passed an ordinance approving an Act of Donation between Lafourche Parish Government and the Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District for the donation of the Saltwater Control Structure;

-- Moved a proposed ordinance amending Ordinance 5782 and amending the Lafourche Parish Code of Ordinances as it pertains to Recreation District Advisory Boards;

-- Passed a resolution accepting the low quote of Brian W. Larose Real Estate Appraiser in the amount of $4500 for the purpose of appraising the proposed Lockport Community Center property;

-- Passed resolutions approving an agreement with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/United Way) for free tax preparation at the Mathews Government Complex, the Galliano Annex, and the Thibodaux Health Unit;

-- Passed a resolution approving a contract amendment between the Parish and Picciola & Associates, Inc., for engineering services for the South Lafourche Airport Corridor Project;

-- Passed a resolution approving the installation of waterlines along West 63rd and West 143rd Streets in Cut Off;

-- Passed a resolution providing voluntary vision benefits with Anthony J. Alford Insurance Corp. effective in 2018 for all full-time Lafourche Parish employees;

-- Voted down a resolution approving a license agreement with XLK International, LLC and appointing same as Broker of Record for Lafourche Parish Government (vote was 0-9);

-- Passed a resolution approving renewal of an agreement with Anthony J. Alford Insurance Corp. to provide voluntary employee dental benefits effective in 2018 for all full-time Lafourche Parish employees;

-- Voted down a resolution approving an agreement with Allstate Benefits to provide Supplemental Insurance and administer a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan for all full-time Lafourche Parish employees effective in 2018 (vote was 0-9).
