Community garden advocate seeks support

What is a community garden and why should Lafourche have one or even many?

There are so many ways in which a community garden can benefit both the community and its local economy. A community garden is something that is built by the community for the community. Its purpose is to promote community fellowship, educate, preserve history and tradition and support its inhabitants.

It could be a place where all of our clubs, local or not, can come to congregate, learn, and experience. It can be a place for community gatherings and cookouts with staged performances. It is a place where people can go to rehabilitate from their daily stresses. The possibilities of a community garden are endless.

Gardens don’t have to only contain flowers. They can contain anything from flowers, to herbs, to vegetables and fruits, trees and shrubs, seasonings and spices.

On my advocating venture, I have to say I have met some pretty interesting people thus far. This can only tell me that Lafourche is quite filled with them. There is no doubt in my mind that if all of Lafourche’s farmers and artisans came together, we could not only build something that would cause our economy to soar but make Lafourche beautiful at the same time!
