Cheramie to reign over all-female Krewe of Nereids

The all-female Krewe of Nereids recently announced that Yvonne G. Cheramie will reign as Queen Nereids XXX.

Cheramie is the wife of Ray Cheramie of Larose, mother of Stephanie Cheramie, Sheila Gisclair and husband Patrick Gisclair, Michele Cheramie, Rachel Rodrigue and husband Les Rodrigue, and Brandi Callais and her husband Forest Callais.

She is also grandmother of twelve and ‘Ge Ge’ to six great-grandchildren.

She is the daughter of the late Mary C. and Douglas Guidry, Sr. of Golden Meadow.

Yvonne is a retired hairdresser and presently employed as a school bus driver and part time merchandiser for American Greetings.

She enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Her majesty’s pages include Max Joseph Silverii, son of Michele Cheramie and Scott Silverii, Camryn Mary Callais, daughter of Forest and Brandi Callais, Kristen Mary Guidry, daughter of Bambi Barrios Guidry and Vincent and Andrea Guidry, and Madilynn “Madi” Plaisance, daughter of Jack Plaisance and Amanda “Mandy” Bower.

The Krewe of Nereids has reached a milestone in 2014, celebrating 30 years. The club organized in 1984, rolled the first time in 1985 and have been celebrating every year since.

This year’s parade will roll on Sunday, March 2nd starting at 6 p.m. on the traditional Golden Meadow route. Nereids theme this year is “WOW!!! 30 Years”.

Nereids was the first all female night parade in Lafourche Parish. They will roll single and double decker beautiful illuminated floats and throwing thousands of beads, trinkets and signature throws celebrating their 30 years of existence.
