Catholic Community Center Celebrates 30 Years

Catholic Community Center (CCC) is located at 9018 East Avenue A in Galliano next to the South Lafourche Tarpon Bridge, directly behind Renovations. The Center is both a thrift store and a food bank.

“If you have not visited us,” says Susan Terrebonne, the Co-Manager of Catholic Community Center, “please come by and shop our clothing sales.”

Most clothing items in the thrift store at CCC are sold for a quarter. The money is used to purchase items for the food pantry to help people who are in need. Families in need are given food, household cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items at no cost. Annually over 340 families (almost 900 people) are assisted.

Terrebonne continues, “Jesus stated that whatever we do for the least of our brethren, we do for him.”

From January to September of this year, CCC provided free food or clothing to 250 families made up of 248 children and 392 adults/elderly people. The twenty-seven volunteers who run the facility have donated 5,020 hours of their time, just since January.

Co-manager, Kristen Callais states, “This past year we have experienced a slight decline in clothing donations. We believe this may be due to the increase of convenient ‘drop boxes’ seen popping up curb-side and in parking lots around town.” She continued, “When donating items, I like to pay attention to exactly what charity or organization is sponsoring the drive. It’s always nice to donate to a nonprofit organization that directly serves our community. The Catholic Community Center has been serving this community for thirty years now. Our center is operated by local volunteers and all items donated to us are given by local people for the benefit of local people.”

When questioned about how members of the community can contribute, Terrebonne answered, “We accept food items and gently used and new clothing of all types, including shoes and work boots. And of course, we can always use prayers!” She continues, “Please consider donating and shopping with us.”

Catholic Community Center, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, also gratefully accepts monetary donations, which are fully tax deductible. Catholic Community Center is a program of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.

The CCC hours of operation are Mondays from 2 pm to 4 pm, Wednesdays from 10 am to 2 pm and Fridays from 10 am to noon. Donations of food and clothing can be brought anytime the store is open.
