Body Found in Choupic Community
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced recently that a body was located along Dixie Canal near the Sawmill Road boat launch in the Choupic community.
In the early morning hours of June 1, a boater notified the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office that he found what he believed was a body floating in the canal. Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office Water Patrol deputies and detectives responded to the scene and retrieved the remains. After careful examination of the remains, a wallet was retrieved belonging to missing Lafourche Parish Resident, Chad Babin. Sheriff Webre stated that we are unable to unequivocally confirm that the body found is that of Chad Babin at this time and will await the results of an autopsy to be performed by the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office.
Sheriff Webre also stated that detectives were unable to determine any obvious or specific cause of death. Chad Michael Babin of 1526 Highway 304, Choupic, was last seen on Friday May 1, and reported missing by his family on Sunday, May 3. Our investigation of the missing 31 year-old is ongoing.
