Blood Center to give away Saints shirts to donors
“Are you ready for some football?” If so, then visit one of the Blood Center’s Bayou Area Donor Center now through Saturday, August 17 and donate blood. Donors will receive a limited-edition black and gold “Lifesaver” ringer-style t-shirt that will be perfect for cheering on the home team on Sundays during football season.
• Mathews Donor Center, 4884 Hwy. 1, Raceland. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Galliano Donor Center, 16249 E. Main St, Galliano. Wednesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In order to maintain a healthy and stable community blood supply, The Blood Center must collect between 300 to 350 pints of blood everyday. Donations typically drop during the summer and on holiday weekends, yet there is always someone who needs blood. Donating blood is safe, simple and easy and just one pint can help to save up to three lives.
Donors must be in good health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years of age to donate blood. Sixteen years olds are now eligible to donate; they must weigh at least 130 pounds and have signed Blood Center parental consent form. Donors are encouraged to eat a healthful meal and drink plenty of fluids before and after donating. Please remember to bring a picture I.D.
The Blood Center is a non-profit community service organization dedicated to providing blood and blood products to patients throughout the southern regions of Louisiana and Mississippi.
