Airport improvement projects to cause temporary delays in coming months
The Greater Lafourche Port Commission (GLPC) would like to make those traveling near the South Lafourche Leonard J. Miller, Jr. Airport in Galliano aware of ongoing and upcoming improvement projects that will cause a series of temporary single lane closures through March, 2019.
These projects include one for Airport Culvert Improvements and the other addressing Airport Entrance Road Improvements.
The Airport Culvert Improvements being made will replace a pair of aging galvanized drainage pipes (with a concrete one) that pass underneath the main drainage canal of Airport Road near NRCS and airport maintenance facilities. This project is set to begin in late December with an expected 60-day completion time. Projected cost for the project is $484,921.
The Airport Entrance Road Improvements project is already underway with a 90-day completion schedule that will see the contractor rerouting existing drainage and widening of Airport Road where it intersects with Highway 308. This reconfiguration will result in a left and right turn lane. Projected project cost is $1,174,829.
As construction progresses, expect minimal delays and spots of single-lane traffic along Airport Road and Highway 308 where someone would turn on to Airport Road. Please obey signage and flagmen, use caution when traveling through the construction area, and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
While the entrance road improvements project is a Lafourche Parish Government initiated one, the culvert improvements is a Port Fourchon/LA DOTD run project.
