Agents find marijuana growing in closet of Golden Meadow home

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Golden Meadow man after narcotics agents found suspected marijuana plants growing in a closet at his home. Steve Cheramie, Jr., 44, of 20864 Highway 1 in Golden Meadow was arrested following a search of his home which also turned up suspected marijuana seeds and drug paraphernalia.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 19, agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force and agents from the Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole conducted a check on Cheramie’s residence in Golden Meadow. Upon arrival, agents made contact with Cheramie and conducted a search of the residence. During the search, agents discovered seven pots filled with soil along with items to control the lighting and climate in the closet, commonly associated with the cultivation of marijuana plants. Agents also located three marijuana leaves, two prescription bottles filled with suspected marijuana seeds, and an additional bottle with suspected marijuana and additional seeds. Various drug paraphernalia was also located inside the residence.
Cheramie was arrested and charged with production of marijuana (cultivation) and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked and currently remains in lieu of $50,250 bond as set by Judge Walter Lanier III.
Cheramie’s criminal record includes 22 prior arrests for charges including several DWIs, various assault and battery charges, theft, hit and run, and other offenses.
