Two Dead and One Injured in a Three Vehicle Crash on LA 24
Larose, LA- Shortly before 10:30 am Wednesday morning, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a double fatality crash that involved three vehicles on LA 24 in Lafourche Parish.
The investigation revealed that a 2010 Ford F-150 was traveling east on LA 24 (Bourg Larose Highway) in Larose. The F-150 was being driven by Murphy Callais Jr. (age 38) of Cut Off.
The F-150 was following a 1995 Mack dump truck that was also traveling east on LA 24. The dump truck was being driven by Chad Jarreau (age 40) of Cut Off.
At the same time, a 2007 Volvo tractor trailer (eighteen wheeler) was traveling west on LA 24 approaching the two vehicles. The Volvo was being driven by Lloyd Coleman (age 62) of Thibodaux.
The F-150 entered the westbound lane of LA 24 and attempted to pass the dump truck, at which time it struck the Volvo tractor trailer head-on.
After the initial impact, the F-150 rotated counter clockwise and re-entered the eastbound lane of LA 24 where it was struck by the dump truck. After striking the F-150, the dump truck struck the Volvo’s trailer, which had rotated into the eastbound lane of LA 24.
The dump truck then traveled off the right side of LA 24 where it overturned and came to rest on its right side. Both Callais and Coleman, who were properly restrained, were pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Coroner’s Office. Jarreau, who was properly restrained, was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center with minor injuries.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Callais and Coleman. Blood was taken from Jarreau and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.
