  • Halliburton reaches $1.1B oil spill settlement

    HOUSTON (AP) — Halliburton says it has agreed to pay $1.1 billion to settle a substantial portion of plaintiff claims arising from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The settlement, which is subject to court approval, will be paid into a trust until appeals are resolved over the next two years.

  • Human skull donated to Goodwill store in Texas

    AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Police are scratching their heads trying to work out who donated a human skull to a thrift store in Austin, Texas. Homicide Detective Derek Israel said Wednesday that foul play is not suspected and that he just wants to know how the adult skull came to be left at the Goodwill store. Goodwill store staff discovered the skull while sifting through donations on July 16.

    SYDNEY (AP) — Shaun the shaggy Australian sheep has at last been shorn smooth. But the woolly wanderer wasn't the wooliest of them all. The sheep apparently had been hiding for years on a farm on the island state of Tasmania and had never been shorn.

  • Pedestrian struck and killed in Lafourche Parish

    Raceland, LA- Shortly after 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a fatal crash that involved a pedestrian on North Service Road in Lafourche Parish. The crash took the life of 26-year old Jace Sevin of Lockport.

  • Mid-level drug dealer and associate arrested as agents seize $6,000 in cash and cocaine

    Narcotics agents have arrested a mid-level drug dealer and one of her known associates. Victoria Cheramie, age 26, of 322 W. 107th Street in Cut Off, along with Avia Chouest, age 28, of 125 Louviere Lane in Golden Meadow, were arrested on Wednesday.

  • Highway Safety Checkpoint Scheduled for Thursday, September 4

    Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Thursday, September 4. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, and other violations. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all ...

  • Council passes dog ordinance

    The Lafourche Parish Council has finally passed a more stringent dog ordinance, but how much “teeth” the law actually has remains to be seen.By a 7-2 vote, parish law will require dog owners whose animals have been deemed “dangerous” to be properly registered and insured.
