    BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, some of country music's biggest stars, will headline the 2015 Bayou Country Superfest, held annually over Memorial Day weekend at LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. Organizers unveiled the festival lineup Wednesday.

    U.S. airlines expect to carry 24.6 million passengers over the 12 days surrounding Thanksgiving, up 1.5 percent from last year.


  • NY troopers arrest man for trying to eat DWI test

    PORT CHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A 40-year-old man is facing multiple charges after New York state police say he tried to eat his DWI test results.Troopers say Kenneth Desormes, of Greenwich, Connecticut, was stopped for speeding on Interstate 95 at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

  • Discontented voters hand Senate to Republicans

    WASHINGTON (AP) — Rising discontent with President Barack Obama produced a Republican-controlled Senate on Tuesday that will join the House in confronting the White House on energy, the environment, health care and other issues for the next two years. The new GOP-led Congress is poised to force Obama repeatedly to choose when to veto, compromise or acquiesce. 

  • Exit poll in La.: economy, health care top issues

    NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Voters' views of Tuesday's U.S. Senate election in Louisiana, according to final results of exit polling conducted for The Associated Press and television networks. Three of the eight candidates were considered major and invited to debates: Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu and Republicans Bill Cassidy and Rob Maness, who was backed by the tea party.

  • Constitutional amendments meet varied fate

    Voters went to the polls Tuesday and voted on 14 proposed amendments to the state’s already cluttered state Constitution. The proposals meant with various fates, with six proposals passing and eight failing.

    Proposed amendment number one, dealing with the Medical Assistance Trust Fund, passed by a margin 776,900 or 56.1 percent for and 606,475 votes, or 43.8 percent against.

  • Runoff Awaits Landrieu And Cassidy, Miller and Erny

    Embattled incumbent U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D) held a thin 16,000 vote margin over U.S. Representative Bill Cassidy (R) early Wednesday morning with all precincts reporting from across the state of Louisiana.Landrieu received 618,840 for 42.0 percent while Cassidy received 602,439 votes for 40.9 percent.

  • La. shelves plans for computerized tests in spring

    BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's new Common Core-aligned standardized tests won't be given on computers this year as had been planned for thousands of students, but will be given entirely on paper, Education Superintendent John White announced Friday. Roughly 300,000 students in third through eighth grades will take the tests in the spring.

  • Theft charges dropped against Larose woman

    Charges have been withdrawn against a Larose woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her former employer, Lafourche Parish District Attorney Cam Morvant II said.Tanya Callais, 44, 245 Willow D St., was accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her Cut Off employer in July of 2013. More than one year later, in August, 2014, Callais was arrested and charged with five counts of felony theft.

  • Teen booked with attempted murder, drug charges following Raceland shooting

    A 19-year-old from Raceland has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident on Friday. Dwaynete Folse, 19, also faces drug charges after admitting to his involvement in the incident.At 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 31, deputies responded to the area of Greenville Street in Raceland after receiving a report of shots being fired in the area.
