  • Jindal goes to Mexico border for firsthand look

    BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said he saw three groups of people try to illegally cross into Texas from Mexico when he traveled Monday to the border to get a closer look at the nation's immigration crisis.

  • Sheriff's Office warns of online rental scams

    Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is advising citizens to be suspicious when responding to advertisements on websites such as Craigslist or similar online classified websites regarding apartment and home rentals, as well as the sale of real estate or vehicles. Scammers are using these types of ads to collect money from victims and then never deliver what was promised in the advertisement. In the last two weeks, two houses for sale in Lafourche Parish were allegedly used in rental scams.

  • Missouri couple charged in two recent shooting incidents in Lafourche

    A couple from Missouri faces charges of attempted murder and property damage following two shooting incidents which occurred this past week. Justin Rice, 26, and Christina Higgins, 35, both of Jefferson City, Missouri, were arrested Tuesday, August 5 in Golden Meadow.

  • Business forum planned at Nicholls State

    THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Nicholls State University is planning a business forum Sept. 22-23 on the Thibodaux campus.University officials say the program, called the Bayou Region Business Institute, will focus on the latest trends in business.

  • Audit criticizes handling of waste tire program

    BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — An audit says the Department of Environmental Quality hasn't properly collected fees in a program designed to keep tires from being dumped illegally.The review was released Monday by the legislative auditor.

    KENTWOOD, La. (AP) — State police say a 22-year-old Vacherie man who was thrown from a four-wheeler and lying on a highway was run over by a car and killed.

  • More high school students earning college credit

    BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's high school seniors are making increased strides on Advanced Placement exams that are used to earn college credit, according to data released Thursday. The Department of Education said 4,542 public high school students who took an AP test in 2014 scored 3 or higher.

  • Dead zone off Louisiana about at 5-year average


    NEW ORLEANS (AP) — This dead zone — an area off Louisiana where there's too little oxygen in the Gulf of Mexico to keep sea creatures alive — is about average this year and currently the size of Connecticut, a veteran scientist reported Monday.
